Abstract

The purpose of this article is to diagnose the platform society and propose actions that should be implemented over the next ten years in Brazil. An introduction to the theme of digital platforms is made, clarifying some fundamental concepts (data sovereignty and colonialism, datafication, infopower, and algorithmic governmentality). Then, the three central parts of the text are presented: a current diagnosis, perspectives on the future and some propositions of actions that must be thought and/or implemented to face the challenge of platforming society in Brazil.

    Writer, full professor at the Faculty of Communication at UFBA, and CNPQ Researcher Fellow 1A. PhD in Sociology from Université René Descartes, Paris V, Sorbonne (1995). Visiting Scholar at McGill and Alberta Universities (CNPQ / Canada, 2007-2008), at the National University of Ireland (CAPES / Maynooth, Ireland, 2015-2016) and at TIDD-PUC-SP (CNPQ, São Paulo, 2022). Director of Lab404 - Digital Media, Networks, and Space Research Laboratory. His current research is on neomaterialism, communication theories, and digital culture (CNPQ, PQ/2019-2024). He has published fi ve fi ction books, 15 academic books, and numerous articles in national and international periodicals and book chapters on digital culture. His latest books are “A Tecnologia é um Vírus” (Sulina, Porto Alegre, 2021); “Desastres” (Penalux, SP, 2021) and “Objetos da Bahia. Entrevistas” (Mondrongo, 2020).
