2. Accessibility in Article Content
- Alternative Text (Alt Text): Mandatory for all figures, tables, and graphs, briefly describing the image for screen readers — verified by the editorial team prior to publication.
- Tables: Never inserted as images — always in an editable text format, following the IBGE standard.
- Graphs: Without 3D elements, which hinder reading by assistive software.
- Heading Structure: Consistent heading and subheading structure (clear hierarchy of sections), which helps both human readers and assistive technologies navigate the text.
3. Multimedia Accessibility Features
The journal encourages, as a recommended best practice, the production of audio abstracts and captioned video abstracts of the published articles, expanding the ways to access the content. This production is not required at the time of submission, so as not to create an additional barrier for authors who do not have audiovisual production resources.

In addition to the content, Revista Intercom seeks to ensure the accessibility of its website: navigation compatible with screen readers, appropriate contrast between text and background, and semantic structure of the pages. The articles can be read directly in the browser, without the need for downloading, through an integrated PDF viewer.

The journal also offers authors, reviewers, and members of the editorial board the option of voluntary and confidential self-declaration of disability, based on Law No. 13,146/2015 (Statute of the Person with Disability).
