Race, Ethnicity, and Inclusion

When race and/or ethnicity are variables relevant to the object of study — such as in research on media representation, reception, or content production — authors must state and justify the criteria and categories used for their definition and collection (for example, self-declaration by participants or IBGE, the Brazilian official statistics institute, classification), avoiding treating race as a biological attribute.

It is recommended that results be presented disaggregated by race/ethnicity whenever this variable is analytically relevant, in the same spirit of transparency as SAGER, and that unfounded generalizations about racial or ethnic groups be avoided, adopting up-to-date, non-stigmatizing language.
